LIVE FEEDING INJURY;

This Ball python was left alone with a live rat and she sustained these injuries. Treatment for a wound like this will take weeks, if not months of wound management and bandage changes.
This is why we advocate to NOT feed live. Frozen-thawed is much safer. Reptilinks are another great option and are highly recommended.

Dog attacks;

Dogs are predators, and have those natural instincts, regardless of whether you have ever seen them exhibited. If you have a small animal in the home, you can never completely let your guard down.
We commonly see chickens, small mammals, small parrots, and tortoises, injured grievously even by small dogs. It is imperative that you keep your dog separate from any other small animals you might have in your house.
We see degloving, “shaken baby syndrome”, cracked shells and beaks, deep punctures, lacerations, and more. These injuries, IF they are survivable, usually take long-term care to get them healed.

Cat interactions:

Cat saliva contains bacteria that is highly toxic to birds in particular, but also many other non-felid species. Birds don’t even need a wound to be affected by this, as they preen their feathers and can ingest the bacteria. Cat contact with birds is a medical emergency.
